We need to help our daughters grasp the epitome of true beauty. This Dove video is a great opportunity to discuss the impact of media in how we see ourselves. We are our worst critic and when we start comparing ourselves to others, particularly the models whose livelihood depend on it, we are surely setting ourselves up for unhealthy and unrealistic standards. I had a conversation with my girls about body image and I made them understand that it's more about being healthy and fit than the number on the scale or the number on the clothing tag. As a mom of girls, I know that a healthy disposition to body image starts with me so I pray for wisdom to show them by each choice I make that true beauty starts with the heart and outer beauty will follow. Emphasizing godly values more than glamorous values is a great reflection of where my priority lies: first inner, then outer. The former greatly affects the latter so let's be about what true beauty really is and model it to our daughters.
